What happens when you take your own story and put it to a beat?
Join rapper, MC and experienced creative facilitator Isaiah Dreads for three days of hip-hop, lyric writing, storytelling and performance at CODA.
Working with a small group across all three sessions, you’ll experiment with words, beats, rhythm and flow while developing your own original writing — whether that becomes rap, poetry, spoken word or something entirely your own.
You don’t need to already think of yourself as a writer, rapper or performer. You don’t need to arrive with anything prepared.
Just bring yourself, your ideas and a willingness to experiment.
Across the three days, Isaiah will help you move from first ideas through to a finished piece, exploring identity, place, belonging and the stories that make us who we are.
The programme ends with an opportunity to perform your work for your friends and family at the end of the session on Wednesday.
This programme is part of The Nightjar Project Exhibtion, a cross-cultural creative project exploring identity, migration, home and belonging, built around one deceptively simple question:
Who gets to tell your story?
There is no expectation that you share personal experiences you would rather keep private. This is a space to experiment with language, ideas and sound, and discover what you want to say.
This booking covers all three workshop sessions:
Monday 26 October: 10am–1pm
Tuesday 27 October: 10am–1pm
Wednesday 28 October: 2–5pm
Please only book if you intend to attend all three sessions.
The programme is free and open to young people aged 16–25. Places are limited and advance booking is essential.
Participants retain ownership of the original lyrics, stories and creative work they produce.
The Nightjar Project is an African Activities CIC project exploring identity, migration, nature and belonging.
