About This Event

The Retelling of Greek Mythology talk will occur at the Brighthelm Centre in Brighton and Hove on 16 December 2026. The event will explore the enduring appeal of Greek myths and their resurgence in pop culture, with ticket prices ranging from £13.00 to £35.00.

Explore why Greek myths have endured through the ages – and why they’re having a resurgence in popular culture today. Followed by a Q&A.

Why are we still turning to ancient myths to explore modern anxieties? Greek mythology has been inspiring new stories for centuries, with Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein often described as a modern Prometheus. But over the past two decades, this fascination has reached new heights, from bookshop shelves packed with new retellings to film and TV series bringing ancient gods, heroes, and monsters back to life. So why do these stories continue to resonate – and why are we so fascinated by them right now?

Join Dr Shelby Judge to explore the enduring appeal of the Greek mythoslogy. Discover how writers have reimagined these ancient stories to explore the concerns of their own time, from gender and power to identity and resistance. From feminist retellings of classical figures to KAOS, and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, explore how Greek mythology continues to evolve across literature and popular culture – and what its enduring popularity can tell us about ourselves.

Doors open at 7pm, talk starts at 7:30pm - come down early to grab a good seat!
