How do law schools teach the histories, legacies and afterlives of race and empire? What pedagogical approaches are emerging within legal education to address colonialism, racialisation, and global inequalities ? What challenges and opportunities do educators encounter in this work?

Join us for the launch of the Critical Legal Pedagogies of Race and Empire Network, a new collaborative initiative designed to foster dialogue, resource-sharing, and research-informed teaching on race and empire in legal education.

This event will bring together academics, researchers, practitioners, and students for discussions that will explore the current state of the field, innovative teaching practices, and future directions for collaboration. Together we will consider how legal education can engage more meaningfully with questions of race, empire, colonialism, and global justice.

Professor Foluke Adebisi of the University of Bristol Law School and Professor Joel Malesela Modiri of the Faculty of Law of the University of Pretoria will deliver the event’s opening and closing keynotes.

Whether you are already working in this area or are interested in developing your teaching and research, we warmly welcome your participation.

About the Network

The Critical Legal Pedagogies of Race and Empire Network is an interdisciplinary space for conversation, collaboration, and innovation around the teaching of race and empire in legal education. The network seeks to strengthen connections between scholarship and pedagogy, amplify Global South and non-Anglophone perspectives, and support the development of more inclusive and critically engaged legal curricula. The launch event and the network are open to anyone irrespective of geographical location.
