About This Event

Songs and dances of peace in Bristol will happen on 1 November at The Beehive Centre for a fee requiring a website check. The participatory session involves sacred dance and singing suitable for all attendees.

A gentle session of participatory sacred dance and singing for love and justice, Suitable for all - no prior experience needed

What would it be like for our voices and our steps to be a sacred act of care? Amid all that is happening in the world and in our lives, the bits we celebrate and the bits we grieve, here is a space where simply moving becomes a form of prayer, a sacred offering of breath, body, and intention that may touch hearts and lives in ways we may not even be aware of. This event is suitable for all - come as you are with what is in your heart for a participatory session in which we are invited to explore how simple singing and movement may be a radical act of love. This session may lead to future sessions running more regularly in Bristol - come and support the seeding of something new! All are welcome. We will be accompanied by soulful live music and lovingly co-held by a team. The session may include an opportunity for some sharing.

Getting there and access

The venue is wheelchair accessible. There is free onstreet parking. Buses 6 and 7 pass by the venue from central Bristol and St Paul's. Buses 45, 18, 41, 43 and 44 go to the main entrance of St George's Park which is an 8-10 walk away through the park.

Welcoming marginalised identities

We are seeking to hold the space in a disability-friendly way. We also wish the space to be a space where you will be welcomed as a member of a marginalised identity - migrant-friendly, neurodivergent-friendly, BIPOC-friendly, queer-friendly, and trans-friendly in a time and a place where those things are sadly not a given. Let us know if anything from us would support you coming.

Timings

Arrive from 1.30pm and have a hot drink and/ or bring a snack before we gather. We'll gather at around 2pm and finish before 4pm, with a short break in the middle.

About the sliding scale

We're asking for sliding scale contributions wanting to cover our costs as well as wanting the session to be affordable. If the lowest amount on the sliding scale is not affordable we will not turn you away - please get in touch with us if this is the case and let us know what would be affordable. If you can afford towards the middle or the upper end of the sliding scale please consider paying at this end - that will support us to offer lower rates for others and also know our costs will be covered. If you don't want to have to ponder this, there is a 'standard' £20 option available on the booking page.

We anticipate the very basic costs (hall hire, refreshments and travel costs) will be around £80. Once our costs are covered, any additional income would be divided between grassroots community cause(s) and the people holding the space on a needs and requests basis. Preparing and holding the event can take many hours and lots of energy. While this is offered as a community event not as a money spinner, income can also be really supportive in sustaining and resourcing ourselves as we lovingly offer this.
