About This Event

A session on Trends in Volunteer Engagement and Recruiting Effectively will be held on 23 September 2026. The event takes place at The Sawmill, Tyntesfield National Trust in Bristol. This free workshop explores current motivations and trends in volunteer engagement.

Explore current trends in volunteer engagement and volunteers’ motivations.

This interactive workshop on volunteer engagement trends involves presentations, group activities and discussions to build your recruiting skills and confidence.

This workshop forms part of SW Federation of Museums and Galleries’ autumn meeting: How Tyntesfield is Adapting to the Changing World of Volunteering, which preceeds this training session and must be booked separately.

Who should attend?

A session for anyone involved in volunteer recruitment in museums and heritage.

If co-ordinating volunteering is all or part of your role, whether paid or voluntary, whether front-facing operations or behind the scenes in collections, this session is for you. It could also be relevant to trustees of museums who want to widen their understanding.

This session follows on from and is part of a South West Federation of Museums and Galleries in-person event, which will provide excellent networking opportunities for volunteer co-ordinators.

What will you learn?

By the end of the session, delegates will:

explore current trends in volunteer engagement and volunteers’ motivations

understand how a role profile can help plan and structure a new role

increase awareness of what accessible and inclusive volunteering involves

have a go at developing recruitment messaging

gain new insights into Continued Professional Development opportunities to develop your volunteer management skills

About the trainer

Eleanor Moore, MA AMA, is Museum Development South West’s Sustainable Volunteering Officer. She provides advice and support for museums on involving volunteers, helping them to achieve their goals with their communities. She is also responsible for running projects to help museums to become more inclusive. Her background is in social and community history curatorship, with experience of volunteer management, collections and engagement projects.
