About This Event

The St Edmund's Players will perform a production of T S Eliot's 'Murder in the Cathedral' at St Edmund's Church in Bury St Edmunds from 24 to 26 September 2026. The church provides a unique setting for the timeless masterpiece. The parish church was built in 1862.

A production of T S Eliot's timeless masterpiece in a church setting by St Edmund's Players

The parish church of St Edmund's provides a stunning backdrop for this retelling of one of the most heinous crimes in medieval history - the murder of Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury in 1170. Eliot's work from 1935 which explores the themes of power, divided loyalties, faith and love, for which Thomas paid the ultimate price, is as relevant today as it was then when Europe stood on the brink of war.
