AI, Art and Morality will be held on 3 November 2026 at the Rosemary Murray Library in Cambridge. This workshop will explore the intersection of artificial intelligence, artistic expression, and ethical considerations.
Rosemary Murray Library Conversations
Join us for the first event in the Rosemary Murray Library Conversations, a new series bringing women's voices to the questions shaping our society and culture. This year's Conversations focus on artificial intelligence.
Dr Milena Ivanova, a philosopher of science at the University of Cambridge, will deliver the talk, which will be followed by a Q&A with Alberto Garcia, Librarian at the Rosemary Murray Library, and the audience.
Artworks have moral and political status: they can express dangerous ideas, be made in immoral ways and be created by immoral artists. What moral tensions does the use of GenAI give rise to, and do these moral tensions necessarily undermine the artistic value of products generated with it?
In this talk - AI, Art and Morality - Dr Ivanova will explore how algorithmic bias and extraction of artistic labour can affect how we engage with AI-generated art and whether we find it valuable. She will then explore whether there are conditions under which these moral tensions could be overcome to engage us meaningfully with generated artworks.
