Brandon's Pubs and Industries is scheduled for September 18, 2026, at 10:30 am in Brandon Market, Cambridge. This free event provides an opportunity for attendees to embark on a guided walk through the town, delving into its rich industrial heritage. Local experts will be leading the tour, sharing invaluable insights into the history of Brandon's pubs and industries.
Discover the industrial history of Brandon town on this guided walk.
Hear stories of the workers in Brandon's historical industries: flint knapping, fur processing factories and others – and about the many old pubs there used to be along the route (at least eight!) of which one is now a tea room, and another celebrates the flintknapping industry.
Plus, as every town had its gasworks, this walk will explore the site of Brandon's, visiting the manager’s house, along with the remnants of the Lode (the waterway used to bring up the coal from the main river) which is also famous for a World War I plane crash.
We will also see if we can answer the question: where did Monkey Stile Lane get its name?
This route has been specially created for Brandon's Heritage Open Days and will be guided by Imogen Radford and OSBrecks volunteers.
