Together Culture and Your Past Performed present 'Divvy Day', street theatre celebrating The Kite's Cooperative Legacy

Divvy Day is a street theatre production rooted in voices of the people who lived, worked, and played in The Kite neighbourhood of Cambridge, collected through a citizens' science project. The focus is the extraordinary legacy of the Cambridgeshire Cooperative Society and how it created a community that created security and abunance as remembered throgh divvy books, dividend queues, the sense that the local economy was something that would pay you back - and had your back! As late as 1990, a staggering 83,000 people (out of a city population of 101,000) were members. Come hear their stories and learn how a neighbourhood economy created tangible community power.

Created with Your Past Performed Theatre Company and written by Dr Sean Lang of ARU, Divvy Day brings those voices back to the streets they came from, because this isn't just a piece of history, it's something we can bring to life today. Together Culture is working to revitalise a Cambridge Co-operative Society for the 2020s: community-owned, community-accountable, and designed to pay its benefits back to the people who shape it.

Funded by Arts Council England.
