About This Event

On 31 October 2026, a diverse array of performers will come together to perform Schubert's Trout Quintet at St Botolph's Church in Cambridge. The concert commences at 1:30 PM and is open to all without admission; however, donations are kindly requested to support the event. This enchanting performance will take place within the historic confines of this church, creating an intimate setting that enhances the musical experience. Natural light filtering through the stained glass windows bathes the space in a warm glow as the vibrant melodies of the quintet resonate throughout the air, promising a truly enriching auditory journey for all attendees.

A Young Musicians Series Concert

The Trout boasts a revered place in the chamber music pantheon. Yet, unike other works there, such as Beethoven's late quartets or even his own cello quintet to name a few, it was written during a period of carefree youth, and as a result overflows with melodic invention, original textures and harmonic colour. In this concert it is paired with the lesser known Vaughn Williams quintet, also a relatively early work, though for the much slower developing - not to mention longer living - composer.
