View two rare Qur'an folios from the Belbagi Collection that trace the journey of Maghribi script between Morocco and Spain.
The two manuscripts demonstrate illustrate the migration of Arabic text and Quranic arts from Morocco to Iberia. They represent the development of the Maghribi script from two dynasties renowned for their contribution to the decorative arts: the Nasirids of Grenada and the Merinids of Fes. As texts of the Iberian peninsula, they represent the Western artistic tradition of Quranic manuscripts.
Please note: There will usually be students studying nearby, we will therefore ask visitors that the quiet of the library is respected, that no photographs of students are taken, and that visitors do not go into the main part of the library (i.e. no further than the display case). Bags will need to be left in the Front Hall.
