Private screening of "Bare Voice" -- a documentary film on Kabir Suman by Jaideep Varma (National Award Winner 2011)
Global Majority Staff Network presents
A private screening -- a window to a brilliant rich culture of using art for social commentaries, protests and politics of Bengal, India and South Asia.
Jaideep Varma is a Mumbai-based producer, writer and director who has made 7 full-length feature films (two fiction, five non-fiction), including one which won the National Award in 2011 and became the first documentary ever in India to release nationally in theatres. Jaideep is visiting Canterbury on 8th October. We are hosting a private screening of his new documentary film "Bare Voice" which will have World Premiere at the Ganges Sur Seine (https://filmfreeway.com/GangeSurSeine) film festival in Paris on 11th October 2026. After the screening, Jaideep will be available for interactions until 9pm.
"Bare Voice" -- the film
While showcasing a formidable body of timeless songs, which also construct the narrative of Kabir Suman’s life, the film "Bare Voice" demonstrates why he might just be the world's greatest unsung singer-songwriter. And how easily genius too can slip through the cracks of history.
