A contemporary jazz ensemble from Cardiff, with trombone, trumpet, sousaphone & drums to create a sound that’s bold, playful & groovy.

Led by trombonist and composer Gareth Roberts, the band features Gethin Liddington on trumpet, Alastair Stewart on sousaphone and Mark O’Connor on drums. Their music draws on jazz, funk, brass-band and street-band traditions, combining infectious rhythms, melodic horn lines and plenty of space for improvisation.

At the heart of Brass Band Bychan is Gareth’s original writing: characterful, rhythmically inventive compositions that give the four-piece its distinctive personality. The result is a little brass band with a very big sound — contemporary jazz that is energetic, adventurous and accessible, with plenty of humour and a strong sense of Welsh musical character.
