Join a free guided walk with EDC, Tibbalds and Save Swanscombe Peninsula to explore nature, wildlife and the future.
Swanscombe Peninsula is a unique and special place. It contains some of the oldest archaeological remains in the UK, is home to a busy mix of industrial uses, and provides important habitats for wildlife.
We will explore the Peninsula’s habitats, wildlife and water, including what makes them special, which areas are more sensitive, and where there may be opportunities for people and nature to thrive. We’ll also consider where intervention could help - and where it’s better to leave nature alone. Most importantly, we want to hear what you’ve seen, noticed and learned!
We will walk a loop around the Peninsula: setting off from the Botany Marsh Entrance to the east, heading north to Broadness Creek, moving east to Black Duck Marsh, and back to Botany Marsh along a different path, stopping along the way to discover more about the Peninsula’s biodiversity. At each stop, we’ll also ask for your thoughts: how do you think we can protect and enhance the Peninsula’s natural landscape? How might it look in the future?
Please come prepared for a roughly 2.5-hour walk on unpaved paths and uneven terrain. The weather can be unpredictable, so please wear suitable footwear and bring waterproofs if needed!
Children and well-behaved dogs (on a lead) welcome!
Photography: Photos may also be used by Ebbsfleet Development Corporation in its communications. We will ask you to sign a consent form on the day, and a parent or guardian will need to sign for anyone under 16. If you would prefer not to be photographed, please let a member of the team know on the day.
Route and accessibility: The route is unsurfaced and uneven, with some areas subject to access restrictions outside our control. It may not be suitable for wheelchairs or anyone unable to manage rough ground.
Adults (16 and over): All adults require their own booking. This is to help us manage numbers on an ecologically sensitive site!
Children (Under 16): Children are welcome and do not need a separate booking. Please note that all children must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or guardian, who remains responsible for them throughout the walk. One adult should supervise no more than two children under 16.
Dogs: Well-behaved dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead at all times and remain the responsibility of their owner.
