Fancy doing something a little different this autumn?

Join Boots On Adventures and Go Ape at the magnificent Leeds Castle for a unique afternoon combining axe throwing, medieval history, outdoor adventure and a hearty feast cooked over an open fire.

This is a one-off experience bringing together some of the best things about getting outdoors — trying something new, exploring history, enjoying good food and sharing the experience with great people.

🪓 Get Your Axe On!

We'll split into two groups, giving everyone the chance to experience both sides of the adventure.

One group will take part in an exciting axe-throwing experience with Go Ape, where you'll learn the basics, practise your throws and put your skills to the test with some friendly competition.

Never thrown an axe before? That's exactly why you should come! No previous experience is needed.

🏰 Discover the History

While one group is throwing axes, the other will head out with Ben from Boots On Adventures for a fascinating historical walk lasting around 1½–2 hours.

Ben will bring the history of Leeds Castle and its surrounding landscape to life with stories, characters and fascinating insights into the past.

The groups will then swap, so everyone gets to enjoy both the axe throwing and the historical walk.

🔥 Then Gather Around the Fire...

After the activities, we'll come together at our sheltered outdoor dining area for the highlight of the afternoon — a proper open-fire feast.

Our Dutch ovens will have been cooking away over the fire while you've been out exploring.

We'll serve up a hearty medieval-inspired stew in rustic bread trenchers, giving you a taste of how a feast might have been enjoyed centuries ago.

🥩 Beef & Ale Stew

A rich and hearty stew with tender beef, onions, carrots and herbs, slowly cooked over the fire.

🌱 Vegan Vegetable Stew

A delicious plant-based stew packed with vegetables, beans and herbs.

We'll also have rustic bread and accompaniments, followed by warm cinnamon baked apples to finish.

Who Is This Adventure For?

This event is aimed at adults who fancy trying something different.

You don't need to be an experienced walker, and you don't need to have thrown an axe before.

Come on your own, bring a partner, grab some friends or join us as part of the Boots On Adventures community.

It's perfect for anyone who enjoys history, the outdoors, good food, trying new things and a bit of friendly competition!

Our events are relaxed, friendly and welcoming. You don't have to know anyone when you arrive — just come along and we'll take care of the rest.
