The Kinusaiga - Fabric Landscape Craft Workshop takes place on 20 October 2026 at the Fioro Lounge in Cheltenham. Participants will use fabric to colour in a landscape using a no-sew quilting technique.
Use fabric to 'colour in' your landscape with this fantastic no-sew quilting technique!
Get an introduction to the Japanese craft of Kinusaiga, which creates a quilted picture using fabric and foam.
Join us on Tuesday 20th October, 7-9.30pm at Fioro Lounge, Cheltenham to spend the evening creating a unique landscape that looks as though it has been sewn together like a quilt- but this is a super easy no-sew technique!
Amy will go through a quick demonstration of the method, before you are able to browse the tables of fabric to choose colours and patterns that inspire you.
You will each have a piece of foam with a basic sunset and hills / sea scene cut into it so you can get straight to the process of cutting and tucking fabric into the foam to ‘colour- in’ your piece. The foam is covered with adhesive tape that holds the fabric in place while you tuck the edges into the cuts.
By altering your fabric choice, you can create a sunset or sunny blue sky, or even change the sun to a moon and make a night scene! Use green and brown for rolling hills, or pick blues to creates waves. It’s totally up to you.
NB: This workshop involves cutting into and manipulating foam (a similar texture to polystyrene) so if that is an aversion of yours, sadly this might not be the workshop for you. It also involves holding and pressing with a small tool, so if you are prone to pain in your hands, please also take this into consideration. If you need glasses for close up work please bring them along!
You will go home with a foam and fabric picture that can be displayed as is, or you can finish it off by putting it in a frame (not supplied).
Food and drinks are available to purchase on the night.
