Nocturnes and Night Music will explore the historical relationship between music and silence, presented by Susan Tomes and Michael Spitzer. The event is scheduled for 17 October 2026 at The Parabola Arts Centre Cheltenham Ladies' College, with tickets available for £16.
Why have we always turned to music when the world falls quiet? Susan Tomes and Michael Spitzer journey through centuries of music to trace the story of the nocturne and its place in our cultural imagination. From ancient lullabies to the nocturnes of Chopin and the ambient soundscapes of today, the night has inspired some of the most haunting and beautiful music ever written. With live music, listen to the sounds of the night brought to life, exploring how composers have captured everything from stillness and solitude to mystery and longing. This event will be chaired by Andy Rea . There will be a book signing after this event.
