Former Conservative Cabinet minister Sajid Javid talks to former Labour Cabinet minister Alan Johnson about growing up in 1970s Britain and his extraordinary journey to the heart of British public life. The son of Pakistani immigrants, Sajid looks back on a childhood shaped by poverty, racism and the challenge of growing up between two cultures. He recalls school struggles, brushes with the police and the difficult decision to reject an arranged marriage and risk estrangement from his family. Through it all, he refused to accept the limits placed on him by circumstance and found the determination to carve out his own path. This is his remarkable story of resilience and ambition, a tribute to the family who sacrificed so much for him and an invitation to every 'outsider' to keep going and dream big.
