The Folklore & Fantastical Architecture Walkshop on 15 November 2026 invites families to discover local folktales and Chester’s architectural features with Here Then Heritage. This event will also take place at Chester Cross, with tickets priced between £7.75 and £14.79.
Discover Cheshire’s folktales and the fantastical carvings of Chester’s Rows on a family-friendly walk with Here Then Heritage.
Look closely at the buildings along Chester’s Rows and you’ll find a whole world of curious faces, strange creatures and mysterious figures carved into their facades. But what stories lie behind them?
Join local guide, Matthew Bridson of Here Then Heritage, for a walkshop exploring the fantastical carvings that decorate the Rows. Using the buildings’ ornate details as inspiration, Matthew will reveal the folktales and old lore of Cheshire, from mythical beings to strange local traditions.
Along the way, youngsters will get the chance to draw their very own folk character and create a miniature tale to take home at the end of the wander.
Part walking tour, part creative workshop, it’s a magical way for families to see the Rows in a whole new light.
All drawing materials will be supplied, just bring your creativity! Children must be accompanied by a paying adult throughout.
