ABOUT THE EVENT
Essex Director Magazine is part of UK Director Business Magazines and is holding its next event on Tuesday, 15th September.
In a change of details for the event, we're delighted to announce that internationally recognised leadership expert, author and Global Gurus Top 10 Leadership Thinker, Gordon Tredgold, will now be joining us as our keynote speaker, talking about how
“The best failures to learn from are someone else’s”
The funny thing about failure is that whether you’re running a billion-dollar corporation or a business from your spare bedroom, we tend to screw things up in exactly the same ways. The only real difference is the number of zeros involved.
So why make expensive mistakes yourself when you can learn from people who’ve already made them for you?
A lack of focus, no accountability, too much complexity and not enough transparency. These are the things that turn good ideas into bad results, promising businesses into expensive lessons, and occasionally make very smart people look very stupid.
And the frustrating thing is that most initiatives don’t fail for clever or complicated reasons.
They fail for stupid ones. Simple but obvious mistakes; the kind of mistakes that are completely avoidable, if you know what to look for.
This is a rare opportunity for Essex business leaders to hear from an internationally recognised leadership expert, who has advised organisations around the world.
As well as being a celebrated speaker and author, Gordon features as GURU #7 in Global Gurus World’s Top 30 Leadership Professionals, and with Simon Sinek as GURU #1, he keeps good company. He has over 30 years’ experience turning around failing projects, struggling teams and underperforming organisations. In a nutshell, he’s the guy companies usually call after the Titanic has already hit the iceberg.
In his fun, engaging and entertaining talk, he will share some of his own failures, some spectacular corporate disasters, what caused them, what made them worse, and what we can learn from them.
There’ll be stories, laughs, a few “what on earth were they thinking?” moments, and probably a couple of examples where the answer is, “Actually, I was thinking exactly the same thing.”
But Gordon’s talk won’t just be about failure, it will be about how to avoid it and set yourself up for success.
Because failure leaves clues and when you understand the patterns, you start to see the warning signs earlier. This means, as well as making better decisions, you simplify faster, create more clarity, and you stop small problems becoming very expensive ones.
Attendees at this special event will leave with:
· simple, practical tips that can be used straightaway, to improve focus, build accountability, reduce complexity and create greater transparency.
· practical ideas that will help to avoid the stupid mistakes, improve the chances of success, and make leadership and execution a whole lot simpler.
Because success doesn’t have to be complicated.
This event is brought to you in association with: Any IT, Limitless Film & Media, People Puzzles, Rickard Luckin and Riverhills Health Club & Spa, and attendance is open exclusively to sole traders, directors, entrepreneurs, partners, owners and senior decision-makers across all sectors.
