This is a SATELITE event brought to you but the Feminist Academy. We are meeting in Colchester, Essex. We will be in communication via zoom.
Meet others who want to form a joyful resistance and create a better existence.
Is this day for you?
Are you worried about the rise of the far right? Do you want to form a joyful resistance and create a better existence? Do you want to build community to do that? Are you unsure you have time or energy to commit to that, but just want to meet new people and listen to new ideas? Are you new to politics or activism but curious about how the world could be made a better place? Then yes - this is the right place for you!
Who is organising this?
This satelite event is organised by the Feminist Academy. in conjuction with The Guilty Feminist Podcast and Amnesty Feminists. The original idea belongs to The Guilty Feminist podcast. They have been running for a decade, have had over 200 million downloads and participated in various activist campaigns. This is part of our Road to Gilead Project: a series of events attempting to move the dial away from the far right-thinking promoted by the algorithm. How do we really connect with people in our communities and engage them in positive action? How do we share a message of hope and love rather than fear and hate? What can we actually do to make our society better that goes beyond talk? Let’s get together and figure it out.
Why is it called The Road to Gilead?
Gilead is a cultural shorthand created by Margaret Atwood in The Handmaid’s Tale. We worry we are on the road to global authoritarianism that is particularly targeting women, people of colour, the LGBTQ+ community, disabled people and intersections of all these groups. We intend to turn that around.
What is an Open Space Day?
The Open Space method allows large groups of people with a common goal to come together and ask a series of different questions in break out groups. It’s a joyful, free flowing experience where real progress can be made. You can bring a question or idea and call a session to talk it through or you can contribute to other people’s groups or both. You can just listen if you want to. There are opportunities to meet new people, co-create, think things through and start new grass roots projects. There are no obligations.
