This workshop takes place at The Hot Box Studio in Cork on 19 September 2026 from 10:30. It is a three-hour experiential session combining embodiment practices and theoretical content. The ticket cost is £59.97.
A three-hour experiential workshop, combining embodiment practices & theoretical content.
This unique workshop will be co-facilitated by Jane Mulcahy, founder of The Heart Centre, and Scott Kelly, founder of Presence.
It will combine practices focusing on embodiment, attunement and presence with information on safety, attachment, types of trauma, manifestations of trauma, working with trauma survivors, the importance of self-care and the role of community in preventing and healing trauma.
During this workshop you will be invited to notice and further cultivate the direct experience of your deepest nature, your own felt sense of Presence, that which is the foundation and support for your own inner process and the healing quality you bring to any relationship.
Expected Learning Outcomes
Cognitive
On successful completion of this training, participants will be able to:
- Understand the importance of infant-parent attachment for safety, health, relational capacity and behaviour
- Describe Adverse Childhood Experiences, Adverse Community Experiences and trauma
- Discuss the Window of Tolerance
-Understand basic brain development
- Recognise survival responses - fight/flight/freeze/fawn/flop/shutdown
-Appreciate Dr Bruce Perry's "regulate, relate, reason" sequence of engagement
- Understand the buffering role of the community.
Affective
On successful completion of this training, participants will be able to:
- Realise that trauma is very prevalent and harmful, particularly in the absence of safe, stable, supportive relationships
- Feel more aware of the messages that their own bodies and emotions give them regarding the presence or absence of safety in their environment
- Recognise when they are becoming activated (e.g. hyperaroused, or numbed) by a stimulus such as other people's words, behaviour or sensations (e.g. reaction to smells)
- Notice the signs of trauma in self and others
- Understand that we all have a role to play in preventing trauma and helping people to heal
- Feel more confident in engaging with people with greater curiosity and compassion
-Value the importance of ensuring repair occurs after any relational rupture.

On successful completion of this training, participants will be able to:
Appreciate that the in utero and early attachment experiences of human beings have a profound experience on their development, including their internal feelings of safety (interoception), sensory processing, selfhood, ability to trust, ability to learn, social behaviour and responses to stress in later life.
Facilitators
Jane Mulcahy, PhD
Jane has worked in the area of criminal justice, penal policy and social justice since 2005, primarily as a researcher. She hosts a podcast called “Law and Justice” since September 2017. Jane was awarded a Justice Media Award in the best local radio show/podcast category by the Law Society of Ireland for her three-part documentary series “Humanising Human Rights” on Ireland’s second periodic review under the UN Convention Against Torture in Geneva in 2017.
At the start of the lockdown, Jane began recording a special YouTube series of Law and Justice called “How to talk policy and influence people” with many interviewees addressing the subject of attachment, the harmful impact of childhood adversity and interpersonal trauma on individuals and society and the importance of cultivating safety in our homes, classrooms, communities and beyond. Her most recent series is called “Relationship Matters” and explores the importance of relational health across the life course for health, wellbeing, relationship quality, flourishing, social behaviour and healing from trauma.
During Covid Jane founded The Heart Centre to promote interconnectedness and mutual care. She has also designed and delivered an adult education course on the topic of “Childhood Trauma, Consequences and Essential Responses” and occasionally delivers public talks (including for Seed Talks in Ireland and the UK) and training to frontline services on working with trauma survivors and the importance of self-kindness and self-compassion.
Scott Kelly
Scott Kelly is the founder of Presence, a wellbeing and performance Coaching brand, integrating mindfulness and high-performance.
Scott works within the prison system, facilitating group programmes and workshops. His approach is informed by years of his own person experience with sport, trauma, incarceration, meditation and inner development through many modalities.
He is currently training in Craniosacral Therapy, deepening his understanding of the human system and hands-on therapeutic care.
Through speaking, coaching and teaching, Scott creates spaces where people can reconnect with themselves and move through life with greater ease and intention.
