About this workshop
ADHD can shape our relationship with food and eating in many different ways. Difficulties with executive functioning, emotional regulation, sensory processing, interoception and body image can all influence how we plan meals, recognise hunger and fullness, make food choices and maintain regular eating routines.
In this practical in-person workshop, Una Sheehy, Senior Occupational Therapist at Way Ahead Therapy, will explore eating from an occupational therapy perspective and look at some of the reasons food and eating can feel particularly challenging for adults with ADHD.
The session will focus on realistic, supportive approaches whereby Una will share practical strategies that can help make eating more manageable, support sustainable routines and improve everyday wellbeing.
Occupational Therapists support people to understand how their individual needs, environment and daily routines affect the activities that are important to them. When it comes to eating, this can include:
Building more manageable food and meal routines
Supporting planning, shopping and food preparation
Understanding sensory preferences and sensitivities around food
Becoming more aware of hunger, fullness and other internal body signals
Managing the impact of emotions and executive functioning on eating
Developing sustainable habits that work in real life
This workshop is suitable for adults with ADHD, whether formally diagnosed or self-identifying, as well as family members and professionals who would like to better understand the relationship between ADHD and eating.
About the presenter
Una Sheehy is a Senior Occupational Therapist at Way Ahead Therapy, with clinical experience supporting people around neurodiversity, eating and everyday functioning.
Una also holds postgraduate qualifications in Neurodiversity and Eating Disorders, bringing together specialist knowledge in both areas with an occupational therapy approach focused on practical, meaningful changes in everyday life.
