Turkish (Ebru) Marbling Workshop with The Handcrafted Hen
Discover the Magic of Floating Colour
Discover the beautiful and unpredictable art of Turkish (Ebru) marbling in this relaxed, hands-on workshop for adults.
Turkish, or Ebru, marbling is a centuries-old art form in which colourful inks are floated on the surface of specially prepared thickened water before being gently manipulated into beautiful, one-of-a-kind patterns. These designs are then transferred onto paper, fabric and other surfaces, creating prints that can never be exactly repeated.
Whether you're completely new to marbling or simply looking to explore a new creative process, this workshop will guide you through the techniques needed to create your own unique designs.
What You'll Learn
During the workshop you'll learn how to prepare surfaces, use traditional marbling materials, explore a variety of pattern-making techniques, and gain confidence experimenting with colour, movement and pattern.
A Relaxed, Creative Experience
Working in a small group, you'll receive step-by-step guidance throughout the session, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions, experiment and enjoy the wonderfully calming process of watching colours float, swirl and transform before your eyes.
What's Included
All materials and equipment provided
Expert tuition throughout the session
Hand-marbled papers to take home
A hand-marbled piece of fabric
A beautifully marbled paper fan
Tea, coffee and a welcoming creative atmosphere
Who Is This Workshop For?
This workshop is designed for adults aged 18 and over.
The workshop aims to be as inclusive and accessible as possible. Studio 36 is wheelchair accessible, and if you require any additional support needs, please get in touch before booking so we can discuss your requirements and do our best to ensure you have an enjoyable and comfortable experience.
Why Learn with The Handcrafted Hen?
When booking with The Handcrafted Hen, every workshop is personally planned and taught by me—an experienced artist and qualified Art & Design teacher with over 15 years' teaching experience, alongside many years spent developing traditional bookbinding and Turkish (Ebru) marbling techniques.
Rather than following a fixed formula, workshops are intentionally kept small, allowing plenty of time for individual guidance, encouragement and creative exploration. Whether you're a complete beginner or already enjoy making, you'll be supported at your own pace in a relaxed, friendly and inspiring environment.
The aim isn't simply to produce beautiful marbled papers and fabric—it's to help you discover the joy, confidence and satisfaction that comes from learning a traditional craft with your own hands.
Continue Your Creative Journey
The papers and fabric you create during the workshop are more than just beautiful keepsakes—they're the starting point for many future creative projects.
Your hand-marbled papers can be used for greetings cards, gift wrap, bookmarks, framed artwork, book covers, journals, boxes, collage, scrapbooking and many other paper crafts. Your marbled fabric is equally versatile and can be incorporated into a range of textile and sewing projects.
If you enjoy the workshop and would like to continue developing your creative skills, many of your marbled creations can be used in future workshops with The Handcrafted Hen. For example, you can transform your own marbled papers into a unique handmade book in the Japanese Stab-Binding Workshop, or turn your marbled fabric into a beautiful drawstring bag in the Make Your Own Drawstring Bag Workshop.
It's a wonderful way to build your skills over time while creating handmade items that are truly personal and completely unique.
