From the gallows to the apothecary, for centuries human bodies were a normal part of everyday life. Public executions were a form of entertainment, and even after death the body provided medical education, and even medicine.

Join award-winning medical historian Dr. Robyn Atcheson for a deep dive into the history of (and uses for) cadavers.

About the Speaker

Dr Robyn Atcheson is a medical historian who researches healthcare for the poor from across the 17th to 19th centuries. Her work on public health in Belfast won the Kirkpatrick History of Medicine Award from the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland in 2015. Alongside teaching at university level, she regularly appears on radio, TV and podcasts as a history communicator, sharing stories from history that are entertaining and meticulously researched.
