Dover's Forgotten Cavalry 1863-1914 by Andy Rayner
During the latter part of the Victorian era, and in the years leading up to the Great War, Dover was home to many thousands of Infantrymen, Royal Artillery Gunners, Royal Engineers, and men from other support services. What is often overlooked, however, is that during this time, Dover also had its own troop of cavalry. These were the part-time, volunteer soldiers of the Royal East Kent Mounted Rifles, one of the regiments that formed the Yeomanry Cavalry.
Having recently discovered a source of original material, I am now able to tell the full story of Dover's cavalry troop, with a wide selection of period photographs, documents and notebooks. Come along and here the story of handsome, dashing and glamorous young cavalrymen......and their love of cricket!"
