Artist-Teacher-Researcher/ Professional Development
Saturday 5th September 10.30am-1.30pm
Are you an art-teacher at second level or a primary school teacher who values creativity? Maybe you’re artist working in the education sector? If you have a keen interest to keep up to speed with your own professional development, whether your Fine Art or Design practice is active or passive, we believe that the 'researcher' part of your role as teacher/artist can be stimulated and engaged both for you and your students through our programme which offers 3 seasonal days per year to engage and help you develop and remain sustained and stimulated.
A Museum and Gallery’s Strategic Approaches (some)
Begin with tea and coffee (and a morning bun) and view the gallery’s first children's art competition/exhibition led by gallery director, Aoife Ruane, reflecting some of the objectives for the gallery for children and young people.
An Artist-led workshop
Can a line drawing become more than a simple observational sketch of some leaves, flowers or grass? Can the drawing become a story, a document, or even evidence?
Considering the process and materiality of Miriam De Burca's practice – this workshop begins with a short stroll to the graveyard at St Peter's Church of Ireland.
Consider the experience of physically going to this burial ground, and 'the ceremonial act of choosing something that grows there' to make a drawing of it. Miriam’s expectation is that this will deepen your experience and connection to the subject and artwork you create, as well as an increased appreciation and understanding of the process and the socio-political power of art-making.
Artists Approaches & Processes
Join Picturing the Border 1921 - 2026 co-curator Dr Orla Fitzpatrick and consider the range of artistic approaches and process in work across fine art print, sculpture, moving image and photography across the 100 year period in this discursive session.
The session is charged at €20 and includes all materials and refreshments.
After completing the session you will be emailed the CPD Certificate.
