Join archaeologist Neil Jackman on this ISL interpreted walk to explore the archaeology, history and folklore of Dublin's Hell Fire Club.

Perched high on Montpelier Hill, looming ominously above the Dublin skyline, the Hell Fire Club is one of Ireland’s most iconic landmarks. Since William Conolly first destroyed an ancient tomb to build a hunting lodge in 1725, it has become a place of stories, myth and folklore. In 2016, a team of archaeologists sought to untangle some of the tales and to discover the real story.

As we climb the storied hill, Neil will describe the archaeological excavation which took place here ten years ago and the prehistoric landscapes of the Dublin Mountains, along with tales from folklore and mythology.

For those who plan to travel independently by car.

As bus places are limited, please only reserve a bus ticket if you are certain you will use the service, so that places remain available for others who need them.

Degree of difficulty: Easy to moderate.

Bring: Sturdy waterproof footwear, rain jacket, warm layers, water, and snacks.

Parking: Please carpool where possible.
