About This Event

Making Space will be held on 10 October 2026 at Carmichael House in Dublin. This workshop invites participants to engage in mental health activities and creative projects in a supportive environment, aimed at fostering queer connections.

Join us to learn, connect, and create together in a fun, collaborative space!

Come as you are. Learn, connect and create together. A day for curious minds, creative hands, and queer connection.

Join Dublin Lesbian Line for a community event where we can make space for mental health, creativity and one another. Whether you’d like to try something new, meet people or simply spend time in a queer-positive space, you’re welcome.

What you can expect from the day

Fun mental health activities, creative writing, knitting, art and mindfulness tools, with a team of creatives there to support the activities. You can take part in what interests you and connect with others throughout the day.

Creative Leads and what to expect from the day:

Tina Twomey is a seasoned psychotherapist, WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) facilitator, and proud Dublin Lesbian Line board member. Making Space grew out of her deep passion for blending mental health support with community connection. Professionally trained in the intersection of creativity and mental well-being, Tina has years of experience guiding group spaces with care, empathy, and expertise. While she is a highly experienced facilitator, Tina considers herself a "creative-in-training" when it comes to hands-on art, still exploring her own skill levels and proving that you don't need to be a master artist to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of making things.

Síle Walsh is a psychodynamic-systemic practitioner, facilitator, and creative with extensive experience creating inclusive spaces where people can connect, reflect, and thrive. Their work is grounded in coaching psychology, compassion and co-creation, with a particular interest in how creativity and connection can support our wellbeing. A lifelong lover of crafting, Síle understands the value of making things with our hands to slow down, express ourselves and make space for what matters.

CM Kavanagh, Creative Writing Lead, is a queer Irish poet, performer, and lifelong yearner. They write about love, heartbreak and everything in between from their home in Dublin (but mostly on the DART away from the city). They have been making people cry since childhood, beginning with birthday cards that were widely considered 'a bit much'. Their first poetry collection, Fall in Love Again and Again, was released this year. Instagram: @waitingforthedart

Niamh and Dani are Dublin Lesbian Line’s resident wool extraordinaires and craft champions. Believers in the therapeutic power of a good stitch and a chat, they are hosting a dedicated, cozy space for knitting and crocheting during the event's lunch break. Whether you are a seasoned pro working on a complex sweater, a beginner just starting a scarf, or someone looking to learn the basics, you are invited to pull up a chair, bring your current projects along, and connect over a shared love of all things yarn.

The DLL Mental Health Mini-Library is a cozy, quiet corner designed for resting both your mind and your feet during the breaks. Pop over to pull up a chair, take a breather, and have a wee gander through our curated collection of books focused on mental health, queer joy, and creative inspiration. It is the perfect low-stimulation space to unwind, slow down, and enjoy a quiet moment to yourself.

The Dirt Bird Creative Design Lead - is a Dublin-based multidisciplinary visual artist, comedic cabaret performer, designer, and independent event organiser. Described as a "burst of wit, colour, and kitschy chaos," Sarah's work merges extreme honesty with bold, surreal illustration and distinctively Irish humour. True to her ethos of "No AI here!", every piece of art, merch, and creative concept she produces is meticulously handcrafted. She is the mastermind behind F'Art (Fun Art), a series of playful, pressure-free creative workshops and "arty parties" for adults. As a regular fixture on the Irish festival circuit and a seasoned live performer, Sarah brings infectious, high-energy joy to every community space she enters. For Dublin Lesbian Line's Making Space event, she will be channelling her vibrant, inclusive energy into leading hands-on art and creative activities designed to help minds unwind and queer connection flourish.
