The People of Rathfarnham: Stories from the 1926 Census

Who lived in Rathfarnham in 1926? What did they do, where did they live, and what can their census records tell us today? Historian Liz Gillis explores the lives and stories of the people who shaped the community a century ago.

Historian and author Liz Gillis is from the Liberties. Specialising in the Irish Revolution her books include, ‘The Fall of Dublin’, ‘Revolution in Dublin’, ‘Women of the Irish Revolution’, ‘The Hales Brothers and the Irish Revolution’ and ‘May 25: The Burning of the Custom House 1921’. She is co-author of 'We Were There: 77 Women of the Easter Rising'.

Liz has worked as a researcher and contributor on numerous publications, television and radio documentaries covering the revolutionary period.

Liz is the South Dublin County Council Historian in Residence for Schools and runs Revolution in Dublin Walking Tours.

She was the Researcher for the History Show on RTE Radio and Historical Consultant for the Hyatt Centric: The Liberties Hotel and the Custom House Visitor Centre and was a Curatorial Assistant in RTE, specialising in researching the Easter Rising.

Liz was co-host of Marty’s Big Picture Show on RTE One and hosted the Come To Your Census Podcast. She has also appeared on television programmes including The Great House Revival and Come To Your Census.

Liz is a recipient of the Lord Mayor’s Award and the Donore Credit Union Community Award for her contribution to history.
