About This Event

The Imagining Forensic Science Value & the Future of Scottish Criminal Justice workshop will be an interactive event exploring the future of forensic science and the Scottish criminal justice system. It is free to attend and will take place on 2026-09-02 in Dundee.

Join us for an interactive event exploring the future of forensic science and the Scottish criminal justice system.

The Leverhulme Research Centre for Forensic Science (LRCFS) at the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Business (University of Dundee) invites you to take part in a first of its kind interactive knowledge exchange session on Wednesday 2nd September.

This session will involve an opportunity for you to learn more about the role of forensic science within the Scottish criminal justice system and give your reflections on what this important societal system might look like in the future. Your perspectives will help inform ongoing discussions about the future of forensic science and justice.

The day runs from 09:30 - 16:30 and travel costs can be reimbursed. This session is designed for 16-25 year olds who are interested in science, justice / law or simply want to have their voice heard about the future of forensic science in the justice system. Places will be limited so please confirm your place as soon as possible.

In the morning, we will have the opportunity for you to visit the three key stages (and actors) involved in a criminal justice case, from the crime scene, to the lab and to the courtroom.

In the second part of the day, attendees will explore three topics in facilitated breakout sessions –

1. The future of the courtroom,

2. How the police, Forensic Scientists and the Legal Teams communicate together,

3. The expectations of how different types of forensic evidence contribute to the justice process.

There will be a lunch break on campus at the University of Dundee's Ewing Building, with food and drink provided.
