The Dementia in Eastbourne: Community Roundtable at Hillbrow will bring carers, professionals, and partners together to help shape the future of dementia support in Eastbourne, taking place at Hillbrow Health and Wellbeing on 2026-09-11.
Help shape the future of dementia support in Eastbourne at a community roundtable bringing carers, professionals and partners together.
Around 2,600 people in Eastbourne are living with dementia, alongside thousands of family members and unpaid carers supporting them.
South Downs Health and Care, working with partners including the Eastbourne Neighbourhood Board and Wave Leisure, is bringing together people with professional expertise and lived experience for an important conversation about dementia support in our town.
We are exploring how Hillbrow could develop into an integrated neighbourhood hub supporting people and their carers throughout the dementia journey.
This is a roundtable, not a conference. After a short introduction, most of the afternoon will be dedicated to facilitated conversations about what currently works, where support falls short and what a better, more joined-up approach could look like.
Your experiences, ideas and honest challenge will help shape the emerging plans for Hillbrow and inform the Dementia Steering Group's work with the Eastbourne Neighbourhood Board.
A light lunch is included.
Who should attend?
The roundtable is particularly relevant to:
People with experience of caring for someone living with dementia
Health and social care professionals
GP and community health teams
Voluntary, charitable and community organisations
Organisations supporting older people, carers or people living with dementia
Local partners with an interest in improving dementia support in Eastbourne
What we'll explore
Our facilitated roundtable discussions will focus on some of the biggest questions facing dementia support locally, including:
Early help and diagnosis
What could help people recognise the signs of dementia and access support sooner? What should happen in the weeks and months following a diagnosis?
Living well day to day
What activities, spaces and support could help people living with dementia remain active, connected and independent for longer?
Supporting unpaid carers
What would genuinely improve carers' wellbeing, and could access to Hillbrow's leisure, wellbeing and support services make a difference?
Joining up the system
How could GP practices, hospitals, adult social care, voluntary organisations and community services work together more effectively?
Co-design and reaching everyone
How can people living with dementia and carers play a meaningful role in shaping the future service, including ensuring it reaches communities who can find existing support harder to access?
