About This Event
Above & Beyond Edinburgh offers visitors a unique chance to explore both above and below ground in Edinburgh’s historic Mary King’s Close on June 29th, 2026. Two expert guiding teams will provide a rich, historical perspective of the city, blending insights from underground tunnels with tours of the well-known street. The event is priced at £40 per person.
Two expert guiding teams offer a different perspective on Edinburgh's history, with an opportunity to experience the city both above and below ground. Above & Beyond is a unique two-part experience created in partnership by The Real Mary King’s Close and The Lost Close. Combining a guided walking tour through Edinburgh’s historic Old Town with an immersive underground tour beneath the Royal Mile, it offers a richer, more complete perspective on the city’s fascinating past. First, join one of The Lost Close’s expert guides for a 1 hour walking tour through Edinburgh’s Old Town. Along the way, you’ll uncover the stories, landmarks and hidden corners that shaped Scotland’s capital. Then, continue your journey beneath the Royal Mile at The Real Mary King’s Close. Led by a costumed storyteller guide, you’ll explore preserved 17th century streets and spaces while discovering the real stories of the people who once lived, worked and traded here. Together, these two experiences connect the Edinburgh you see today with the hidden city that still survives beneath your feet. Both tours involve stairs, walking and uneven surfaces. Due to the historic nature of both sites, accessibility is limited. Please contact the venues before booking if you have any accessibility requirements. Children under 5 years old are not permitted on this tour.
