At a time when decarbonization and reducing carbon footprints have become pressing priorities across many sectors, the performing arts are no exception. As international collaboration and artistic exchange remain central to cultural life, how can the sector reconcile artistic mobility, interculturality, and environmental sustainability? Bringing together leading professionals from the cultural sector, this panel discussion will explore the challenges and opportunities involved in balancing international mobility with climate responsibility. Addressing questions of decarbonization, touring practices, and cross-cultural exchange, the speakers will discuss the transformations already underway, and those still needed, to meet climate goals while preserving artistic excellence and meaningful intercultural dialogue. Culture for Climate Scotland believes in the essential role of the arts, screen, cultural and creative industries in contributing to the transformational change to a more environmentally sustainable Scotland. They work directly with individuals, organisations and strategic bodies engaged across cultural and sustainability sectors to harness the role of culture in achieving this change.
