Make Me Bouquet is a show organised by the Zone 10 artist collective. Formed in London at the Royal College of Art @royalcollegeofart, the collective includes artists from ten different countries. The exhibition considers iconography’s use across various cultures, and how it is influenced, altered, and reinterpreted through migration and globalisation. It explores new meanings emerging from complex intermixing, reflecting on what is lost in translation and what is gained. “I came from a faraway land, muddy boots and heavy coats. My brain is swollen with milk of cow, juice from lotus flower, wine and bread, drizzling onto the foreign land. They set it awash on the shallow bay. Some liquid falling from the sky, dripping through my skull. I felt the impression of icons in my head starting to shake, break down and reform. Walking through a marshland, at the edge of my sight, I saw what lies ahead of me. What mollycoddling magic laid into icons of the past have swam their way up the River Styx and are walking around? Fiddling with the strings of cultural connections. Magiking and maligning a breath of dis mean dat… Lower my head, my heavy coat below me, weighed down from what I have walked through. Looking off to the side I see the mess of what I have left behind. New mud makes for new mess. Maybe it is fruitless, but maybe from the chaos there is something rising. History salvaged, the state of the present reconciled, reinterpreting what may already be lost. Make me bouquet.”
