About This Event

The Edinburgh International Festival returns to the Usher Hall on Saturday 22 August 2026 for its second Come and Sing event, a day devoted to communal music-making centred on the chorales of JS Bach. Participants will learn and perform chorales from the St Matthew and St John Passions, with organist Michael Bawtree providing accompaniment. The workshop commences at 10.30am, and singers of all abilities are warmly invited to join the collective performance. This gathering forms part of the wider festival programme, which fills Edinburgh’s venues throughout August with classical music, theatre, opera and dance. Ticket prices are available on the festival website.

The workshop will commence at 10.30am, and participants will learn and perform chorales from the St Matthew and St John Passions, with organist Michael Bawtree providing accompaniment. In the morning, Edinburgh Festival Chorus Director James Grossmith will guide participants through the score, which will be provided in advance.

The event is open to singers of all abilities who can read music. Participants will have the opportunity to perform in a sharing for family and friends in the afternoon, filling the hall with the sound of their collective voices.
