Running from 20–30 October 2026, Greyfriar’s Bobby & William Wallace vs THE HAGGIS is a volunteer-created immersive storytelling adventure that invites visitors to journey through a series of handcrafted environments inspired by Scotland’s rich folklore and cultural heritage. Set within the atmospheric surroundings of Barnton Bunker, a former military complex, the experience combines live characters, imaginative handmade scenery, creative lighting and sound, humour, suspense and moments of fright. This isn't quite your traditional haunted house. While there are scares to be had, this year's experience places characters, atmosphere and storytelling at the heart of the adventure. Drawing inspiration from Scottish folklore, the maze brings together unusual characters, atmospheric scenes and an original story that unfolds as visitors make their way through the experience. And with Greyfriar's Bobby and William Wallace facing a supernatural Haggis, there's plenty of room for a little unexpected humour among the darker moments. Everything has been imagined and brought to life by a passionate group of local and international volunteers. From handcrafted sets and props made using salvaged and repurposed materials, to creative lighting, sound and live performances, the experience is the result of months of imagination, resourcefulness and hard work. It's very much a labour of love. Rather than trying to recreate a large-scale commercial horror attraction, our volunteers have created something with its own personality: an atmospheric, sometimes unsettling, occasionally ridiculous journey through a world inspired by Scottish mythology. The historic surroundings of Barnton Bunker provide a naturally eerie backdrop, allowing the handmade scenes and characters to become part of the setting.
