About This Event

This book launch and film screening will celebrate the launch of KIZUNA - Community Through Printmaking in Japan! This event celebrates the sharing of Kizuna - Community Through Printmaking in Japan, a project by Carla Smith & Nicola Lyttle, which explores the importance of printmaking studios and how these spaces support creative networks. The book and film explore how community exists within creative spaces. To investigate this, the project focuses in particular on risograph printmaking studios in Japan to unpack how community exists within print studios. To build an understanding of the supportive networks that creative spaces nurture, we visited six different studios in Japan. Documenting through photography, interviews, and physically making a print in each space, we were able to build a picture of how print studios are the perfect supportive environment for making rich creative connections. Despite the language barrier, we were able to meaningfully understand how printmaking with others has the ability to allow us to communicate and build exciting, unique relationships. This project has been created through lots of hard work and community support! We are so grateful to everyone who has believed in this project and supported us each step of the way. This event is an opportunity to share the work and celebrate its realisation! The book will be available to view on the night, along with a small exhibition of prints. During the launch event, the film will be screened at 7 pm. There will also be the opportunity to purchase a copy of the book.
