A private morning tour of The Drum, a striking Palladian villa lying

in secluded grounds to the south of Edinburgh.

An early work of William Adam, the house was designed for Lord Somerville in 1726 and contains outstanding Rococo plaster work by Samuel Calderwood and Thomas Clayton, Senior. The visit includes a guided tour of the house by the Drum’s present owner, Billy Moore Nisbett, followed by coffee and pastries in the ballroom.

Arrival: Please arrive by 9.50 am. The tour starts promptly at 10 am. The Drum is accessible by private drive from Drum Street. Look out for the gatehouse and signposting for The Drum Estate.

Parking: There is limited parking available in front of the house.

Bus: LRT 3 and 29 stop at Drum Cottages. The drive entrance for The Drum is 200 yards further south (i.e. away from Edinburgh) and is flanked by a lodge house on the left-hand side.

Cost: £28 (please confirm no later than 21 October).

Duration: The guided tour will last about an hour; coffee and pastries, about half an hour.
