Join us for an inclusive, trauma-informed practice for all LGBTQIA+ folk!
October Schedule
Wednesday 7th: Slow Flow with Calum (he/him)
Wednesday 14th: with Zara (they/them)
Wednesday 21st: Slow Flow with Calum (he/him)
Wednesday 28th: with Zara (they/them)
About the event
We hope to create a yoga community for queer folks, including trans, non-binary and gender diverse people, to enjoy group practice and connect with others. Our classes will follow a focus on finding some time for you, away from judgement or comparisons. We invite you to take some time to notice how you feel and move in anyway that feels right for you, with options to connect with your breath. We encourage choice in your practice and there are never any expectations on how you practice that day.
The classes will be run by various members of our teaching team, usually with one lead teacher and one supporting.
These classes are for those in the LGBTQ+ community. Open to all levels of experience. We will have around a 60 minute movement and meditation practice, followed by some time for a tea and chat. Group size will be up to 14 people.
If you are practicing without a chair you should be able to get yourself up and down from the floor, otherwise we suggest using a chair (this can be used for some or all of your practice). Please let us know in advance if you would like to practice on a chair so the teacher can be prepared. If you are unsure if class will meet your access needs, or if you have any other questions about the practice, please get in touch .
Pricing
We offer tiered ticket options to help make our classes as financially accessible as possible. Please pay what you are able - something that isn’t an overstretch for you, but that helps keep our sliding scale sustainable so we can continue offering these classes.
Here’s a guide to help you choose:
Free ticket: Please select this if you would not otherwise be able to attend a paid class. For example, if you are unwaged, have no financial resources, or are navigating the immigration system. See below for further terms and conditions for these tickets.
Low income ticket: Please choose this if you are on a low income or receiving financial support (e.g. universal credit, disability benefits or similar)
General admission ticket: Please choose this if you can comfortably meet your basic needs (e.g. rent, bills, food) and have some expendable income.
Pay it forward ticket: Please choose this if you can comfortably meet your needs and would like to help cover the cost for someone who otherwise couldn’t attend.
Your donation supports our community teachers and helps cover venue hire so we can continue offering these inclusive spaces.
Refunds
Refunds are eligible up to 24 hours before class start time - we will struggle to fill your space with short notice. If you are unable to make a class and are willing to offer your ticket to someone else please feel free to email us or share to our Whatsapp community
Free ticket policy
Three free tickets are available for every class, generously sponsored by the National Lottery Community Fund. These free tickets are intended to be used by anyone for whom the cost of a paid ticket is too high a barrier to accessing the class.
We anticipate that these tickets will be popular so we ask that you are respectful of the intention of these. If you find yourself no longer able to attend a session, please still cancel your free ticket through Eventbrite as this allows someone else to use the space instead. Our cancellation policy remains 24 hours for free tickets. If you hold a free ticket and cancel within 24 hours of class or do not show up to class more than twice, we will send you a reminder message of our free ticket policy. If you cancel or no show three times, we will unfortunately not be able to support you with free tickets any further. Thank you for your understanding!
About the venue
We will be holding the sessions in the Līla Yoga Studio (https://www.lilayogaedinburgh.com/). There are bus links outside the studio for buses 11, 15, 16, 23, 36, 45. There is some on street parking around the area.
Please aim to arrive 5-10 minutes before class starts as the doors to the studio get locked at the start time.
The venue is situated on the ground floor. When arriving at the building the front door should be open with a place to leave shoes at the door and a space to leave bags and coats at the back of the studio. Someone will be there to welcome you in and direct you to the space.
The front doorway is usually 25.5 inches wide as only half is open but the other side can be opened to make it 36.5 inches if needed. There is a very small (under1inch) step to get in. On Wednesdays we are usually in the studio at the back of the building. To get there, there are two steps together: first 6inches, second 6.5inches.
There are all gender toilets available at the studio, without grabrails. Doorway to toilets are 26".
