About This Event

The event Spotlight: Victorian Exercise will take place on 25 November 2026 at Edinburgh's Physicians Gallery. Joining various speakers, a curator-led talk will explore the history of exercise using objects currently displayed in the gallery. The session is scheduled for 12:30pm on the last Wednesday of the month. Admission costs £0.00.

Join us to explore the history of exercise

Join us at the Physicians’ Gallery on the last Wednesday of every month at 12.30pm for a curator-led talk exploring some of the objects on display in our gallery.

Our topic for this talk is Victorian exercise. Across Europe bodybuilders and showmen like Eugen Sandow toured music halls, demonstrating their great feats of strength. At the same time Victorians were taking up gymnastics and huge open air public gymnasiums were established in many cities, including Edinburgh.

This 20 minute talk is free, but booking is required. The meeting point is in the Gallery.
