About This Event

The Rhinestone Cowboy is a one-woman play written and performed by Hjarta. The production uses a multimedia setting and takes place at Summerhall in Edinburgh.

The Rhinestone Cowboy is a darkly humorous, raw, and emotive one-woman play written and performed by Hjarta, with a diverse multimedia setting by composer and audiovisual artist Harry Bongo. Based on a true story and written by a real-life mother and son duo, this high-octane production maps a young man’s tumultuous journey from Scotland to Iceland. Pulsating electronic sound design – featuring music from contemporary artists – fused with bold visual projections provide a visceral backdrop to a blistering trip from one emotional landscape to another. Written as a tribute to Dan The Man, ‘Rhinestone’ celebrates his kaleidoscopic life – whose humour, charm and resilience masked internal demons. ★★★★ ‘An unflinching portrait…a moving experience’ (The Herald). 18+ recommendation. Contains: strobe / flashing lights, loud noises, themes and references to suicide, schizophrenia/mental disorders, substance abuse, strong language.
