A moving mix of down-to-earth live personal accounts from around the world, of the difference David Hume and his philosophy have made in people's lives and outlooks interwoven with readings from those who knew him personally and music of Hume's day.

Who was David Hume, what made him tick, how did his personality, character and upbringing trigger such radical thoughts, rejecting accepted beliefs and demolishing so many ‘sacred cows’ of his day, to become one of the world’s greatest thinkers both then and now? Considered to be the towering genius of the Scottish Enlightenment and the greatest of 18th century philosophers in the English language, Hume is still a key influence not only on the way we think now but on the very way we live our lives today. He is still as much loved as he was in his own day for his wit, warmth, congeniality and his realistic down-to-earth humanity.

To mark the 250th anniversary of Hume’s death, events held in his home village of Chirnside in Berwickshire, will bring surprising insight and reveal a man who still has the power to touch us all in moving, thought-provoking and helpful ways in our fast changing and uncertain world today. In The Warmth, Wit and Wisdom of David Hume speakers from America, Canada, Europe, Scotland and England from a range of backgrounds and professions will share with us the difference Hume has made and continues make in their lives, understandings and outlooks, and why he is important today.
