Steve Gates, CEO of Taking Care, shares 7½ honest leadership lessons learned from decades leading businesses, people and change
At our September Boost event, we're delighted to welcome Steve Gates, CEO of Taking Care, for what promises to be a refreshingly honest and insightful talk on the realities of leadership.
Drawing on more than three decades of senior leadership experience, Steve will share 7½ leadership lessons that have shaped his career - not through perfection, but through experience, reflection and continuous learning.
Steve has held Managing Director and CEO roles with organisations including Denplan, BUPA, Simplyhealth and Taking Care, leading businesses through periods of significant growth, acquisitions, mergers and most recently, a successful Management Buy Out (MBO).
Throughout his career, Steve has led organisations employing more than 450 people and, at one stage, was responsible for a product used by around 5% of the UK population. He has also been recognised as Best Leader in The Sunday Times Top 100 Companies to Work For awards.
Closer to home, Steve is passionate about supporting the South West business community as Chair of Exeter Chamber and Vice Chair of Devon Chamber of Commerce, whilst Taking Care is proud to be the back-of-shirt sponsor of Exeter City Football Club.
This isn't a talk about being the perfect leader.
It's about the lessons that come from making difficult decisions, navigating change, learning from mistakes and continually striving to become a better leader.
Through honest stories and practical examples, Steve will share the insights he wishes he'd known earlier in his career - lessons that will resonate whether you're leading a business, managing a team or simply looking to develop your own leadership.
