Practical workshop on the Secret Belgian Binding book structure - make and take home a book!

The Secret Belgian Binding is a fascinating, contemporary book structure featuring a 3-piece cover and a distinct, woven-like sewing pattern. On this exciting, practical workshop you will learn core bookbinding skills and take home a beautiful handmade book, perfect to use as a notebook or sketchbook. All the materials and tools will be supplied, and the workshop is suitable for beginners or for those with some experience of making books. Taught by Megan Stallworthy of Celandine Books.

Having trained at Brighton University in bookbinding, Megan Stallworthy is a professional bookbinder, teacher and associate lecturer in bookbinding at Falmouth University. Working from her studio near the Devon and Somerset border, Megan makes books by hand using traditional bookbinding techniques and archival materials, with a contemporary feel. Megan is a member of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen.

Studio Kind is situated at the far end of and within Barnstaple Pannier Market. During out of hours, the market can be accessed by a small wooden door from Butchers Row.

Nearest Car parks are the Cattle Market car park or Barnstaple Central. There is disabled parking on Boutport Street.

The bus station is a 5-minute walk away and the train station a 15-minute walk or bus journey of 10 minutes.

Our venue is wheelchair friendly and accessible to all. There are accessible toilets right next door.
