A reflective CPD workshop exploring how we sustain ourselves, our therapeutic relationships and our private practices.

Thriving in Private Practice is a small, reflective CPD workshop for counsellors, psychotherapists, supervisors, trainees and newly qualified practitioners who are working in, developing, or considering private practice.

Rather than offering a formula for how private practice “should” be done, the workshop creates space to reflect on the clinical, relational, emotional and practical realities of working independently.

Drawing on psychodynamic and relational thinking, clinical experience, supervision and research, we will explore themes including boundaries and the therapeutic frame, professional isolation, annual leave, money, enquiries and therapeutic fit, caseloads, referrals and supervision.

Through presentation, reflective exercises and small-group discussion, participants will be invited to consider what they may want to protect, reconsider, change or develop within their own practice.

The aim is not to create a “perfect” private practice, but to think about how we can work clinically and ethically while developing a practice that can sustain both the practitioner and the work.

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is suitable for counsellors, psychotherapists, clinical supervisors, trainees and newly qualified practitioners, whether you are already working in private practice, beginning to develop your practice, or considering private practice in the future.

No particular therapeutic modality is required. Although the workshop is informed by psychodynamic and relational thinking, practitioners from different therapeutic approaches are very welcome.

Format

This is an in-person, small-group reflective CPD workshop, intentionally limited to a maximum of 10 practitioners to allow space for reflection, discussion and meaningful participation.

Participants will receive a reflective workbook to use during the workshop.
