Excited to announce our upcoming event where we dive into Modules 1-3 of the Young Persons Connect 5 program!

What is Young People - Connect 5?

Connect 5 is an evidence-based training programme designed to promote mental health by changing the way we have conversations about mental wellbeing.

It is comprised of three modules, each incremental in terms of skill development.

Builds personal resilience and self-awareness

Strengthens communication and listening skills

Develops confidence in having supportive wellbeing conversations

Introduces practical tools that can be used immediately in everyday roles

YP Connect 5 uses the same evidence base, models and structure as the adult version, with a specific focus on children and young people.

What do Modules 1 - 3 cover?

Module 1

Introduction to public mental health models and recognised techniques, including the Crossed Axes Model of Mental Health, 3Cs of Connected Conversations and the 5 Areas Model.

How to signpost to local mental wellbeing services and resources that enable people to help themselves.

Module 2

How to use the 5 Areas Model to provide a brief, structured intervention to help a person understand their feelings and what they can do to feel better.

How to identify when a person needs more than self-help (including having thoughts of suicide).

Module 3

Self-help tools and life skills to motivate and support people in taking action to build and maintain their mental wellbeing.

Am I eligible for this course?

This course is only available to those aged 16 or above who are currently living, working and/or studying in Devon, Plymouth or Torbay.

This is an entry-level course; no previous training or experience is required.

What happens next?

After booking your ticket, a place on the course will be reserved for you and you will receive a confirmation email from Eventbrite allowing you to add the event to your electronic calendar.

On the day please arrive at Sideshore Community Hub, Sideshore, Queens Drive, Exmouth, EX8 2GD at 9.20am ready to start at 9.30am. All workbooks will be provided so just bring along a pen.

What if I can no longer attend?

If you are no longer able to attend the training, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can try to offer your space to someone else.

This course has been kindly funded but does require a minimum number of participants attending on the day for it to proceed. ‘No shows’ can result in courses having to be cancelled without warning, wasting other participants time and vital public funds, so we really appreciate any notice you can give us.
