Join the Astronomical Society of Glasgow for our Open Day at the Eric Tomney Memorial Observatory in Mugdock Country Park.
Whether you are already interested in astronomy or simply curious about what can be seen through a telescope, come along and meet members of the Astronomical Society of Glasgow, explore the observatory and discover more about the night sky.
During the afternoon, visitors will have the opportunity to:
🔭 Explore the Eric Tomney Memorial Observatory and see its astronomical equipment up close.
☀️ Observe the Sun safely through specialised solar observing equipment, weather permitting.
📷 Visit the newly opened Stars Over Mugdock astrophotography exhibition in the Campsie Gallery, celebrating the wonders of the night sky.
The exhibition will run at Mugdock Country Park from 10 September until 22 November 2026, with special Meet the Astronomer sessions planned on selected weekends throughout its run. These sessions will give visitors the chance to meet some of the astrophotographers behind the images, hear how they captured them and find out more about getting started with astrophotography. Dates will be announced separately.
If skies are clear, the day will continue into the evening with night-time observing.
This is a free, public event and everyone is welcome. Donations to support the work of the Society are appreciated.
