Forest Families sessions are family events and suitable for children aged 3 -7 years. All children must be accompanied by an adult but only buy a ticket for the wee ones. Sunday 9th August - Hapa Zome printing Using the Japanese print technique of Hapa Zome, make your own unique prints from natural resources including leaves, flowers and lichen. Sunday 16th August - Fact finding woodland trail and quiz Discover our woods and some interesting facts, as you follow a trail using a map through our wild places. Answer the nature themed questions posed along the way and unscramble letters to find the final answer. The Ranger will be on hand to set you off and help along the way. Sunday 23rd August - Marvelous musical wood chimes Explore our woodlands and find suitable wood to make marvellous musical wood chimes. Then decorate and string them together before taking them home. This event is for 8-12 years and adults do not need to accompany their children. Sunday 30th August - Kazoo making Loads of fun can be had from blowing on a kazoo. Come along and be shown how to make your own to take home. Sunday 6th September - Marvellous Minibeasts Come along and see which of our tiny but vitally important invertebrate species you can find, on this land and water based minibeast hunt. Sunday 13th September - Woodcraft Wonders - Spinning Tops Use pieces of wood found in our forest to make and take home your very own wee spinning top. All instructions and tools given by the ranger. Sunday 20th September - Introduction to Orienteering On this family event, find your way around our lovely park with a map and compass, finding clues along the way to solve a conundrum. No experience necessary and all instruction will be given by the ranger. Sunday 27th September - Woodcraft Wonders - Dragonfly Mobiles Celebrate our own flying "fairies" and make a dragonfly themed mobile. Get crafty and make dragonflies using resources we find in the woods, before making them into a mobile to hang in your house. Sunday 4th October - Homes for Gnomes Make a cosy home for our small creatures. And perhaps for gnomes too! Our valuable and fascinating woods are home to many wild creatures. Some of them however need a bit of a helping hand when it comes to choosing a home. Come along on this family event and build wee homes in the Park for wee creatures and possibly gnomes, out of the natural resources we find along the way. Sunday 18th October - Natural Frames There is still plenty of colour at this time of year out in the woods. Make a frame from sticks found along the way, weave wool into it and create a bespoke work of art using other natural materials you'll find on your travels. Sunday 25th October - Woodcraft Wonders - Snail Making Make a wooden snail from pieces of wood found in our wild places. The ranger will help you collect the right type of wood and give you full instruction, for you to make and take home your very own wooden snail.
