Glasgow Fort is bringing back its annual jobs fair, with more than 100 full-time, part-time and seasonal vacancies available. Taking place on Wednesday 23rd September, the free event will give people looking for work the chance to meet employers face-to-face, find out about roles across a range of sectors and access free employability advice. The latest data from the Office for National Statistics Annual Population Survey shows that Glasgow’s overall unemployment rate for those aged 16 and over is 8.4% – notably higher than the Scottish average of 4.0%[1]. Events like the Glasgow Fort’s jobs fair are therefore more important than ever in helping to provide opportunities for people looking for work throughout the city and beyond. Among the businesses recruiting are Wagamama, Smyths and JD at the centre, as well as Woodend Bar, Arnold Clark, Wheatley Group and Security Scotland across the wider city. The jobs fair forms part of Glasgow Fort’s long-standing partnership with Easterhouse-based charity FARE Scotland, which delivers free employability support from its hub at the centre, helping local people build skills, access training and move into employment. FARE Scotland’s Employability Key Workers will also be available to provide practical support with CVs, job applications and interview preparation. Training and employability providers including All in Glasgow, Street League, JBG, NHS Apprenticeships, Chamber of Commerce / DYW and FARE Scotland Volunteering will also be in attendance, offering information on training, apprenticeships, volunteering and other routes into work. Phil Goodman, centre director at Glasgow Fort, said: “We’ve been working with FARE Scotland to support local people into employment for five years, and during that time hundreds of people have been helped to take their next step into work. “Bringing employers, training providers and practical support together in one place makes it much easier for people to find out what roles are available and have those important first conversations. Whether they know exactly what they want to do next or are still working that out, we’d encourage them to come along to the event.” The jobs fair will take place at the FARE Skills and Community Hub at Glasgow Fort from noon on Wednesday 23rd September.
